Turkey issues travel alert to its citizens for Egypt

Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday issued a warning to its citizens traveling to Egypt or living in the country.

Reminding that hundreds of people have lately died and thousands of others have been injured in Egypt, the ministry said in a statement that Egypt's interim government declared a state of emergency across the country and a curfew in Cairo, Giza and several other cities in Egypt everyday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

"Within this framework, it is essential for our citizens who will travel to Egypt or have been living in the country to take all necessary personal security measures and stay away from demonstrations and crowds in Egypt," it also said in the statement.

The ministry urged all citizens to follow the warnings and statements of the ministry and Cairo's statements regarding Egypt.

Turkey also urged its citizens in Egypt to contact the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, the Consulate General in Alexandria or the ministry's 24-hour Consulate Call Center in case of emergency. Alexandria and Cairo embassies or Consulate Call Center which can be reached 24 hours a day for 7 days.    

“During this period of time, apart from city centers and holiday resorts that have direct flight connections, it is advised that travelers should avoid roads, and citizens should stay away from the venues of demonstrations,” the statements said.
