Turkey's Abeylegesse receives World Fair Play award

Turkish distance runner Elvan Abeylegesse received the World Fair Play Trophy at a ceremony in Pecs, Hungary on Saturday.

Abeylegesse was awarded with the Pierre de Coubertin World Fair Play Trophy for lending one of her rivals, Ethiopia's Meselech Melkamu, a spare pair of her spikes ahead of the 10,000m World Championships final in German capital of Berlin in 2009.

Melkamu came second in the race but Abeylegesse, two-time Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, could not finish due to an injury.

"I have no regrets about what I did. I would do the same thing again," she told reporters before the award ceremony.
