A high criminal court in the central Anatolian province of Corum reached Monday a verdict in a case on the killing of 44 people in Turkey's southeastern Mardin province last year.

A group of masked assailants carrying automatic rifles attacked a wedding party in Bilge village of Mardin's Mazidagi town and killed 44 people, including 7 children, as well as the bride and the groom, in May 2009.

Due to security reasons, Corum High Criminal Court started to hear the case on the massacre in September 2009.

The court finally reached a verdict on Monday regarding the 13 suspects tried in connection with the incident.

Accordingly, the court sentenced 6 suspects to 44-fold life imprisonment in solitary confinement, one under-aged suspect to 44-fold 15 years of imprisonment, one suspect to 15 years of imprisonment for keeping weapons at his house and one suspect to 6 months of imprisonment for opening fire in air.

Four suspects were acquitted.
