An S-70 Sikorsky helicopter of Turkish Gendarmery suffered an accident after it touched power lines during flight and crashed in Lice town of the south-eastern province of Diyarbakir on Thursday.

In a statement posted on their web site, the Turkish General Staff said that one Turkish troop was killed in the helicopter accident while seven others were injured.

Local governor Mustafa Toprak said the helicopter crashed while making an emergency landing after the helicopter's tail section hit a power line as it was taking off from a military outpost.

The governor said 14 military personnel including 3 crew members were aboard the helicopter, adding the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
