Galatasaray's former player Mehmet Topal, who transferred to Valencia from La Liga, left for Spain on Sunday to join his new club.

Topal, who spoke to reporters before his departure at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, thanked everyone who worked to make his transfer happen.

He said he would sign an official contract Monday with his new club after undergoing a health control.

Topal said his transfer from Galatasaray to Valencia was a bittersweet experience for him.

"I did my best to serve Galatasaray for the past four years. I thank Galatasaray fans for their support. If there has been any wrongdoing on my part, I apologise. Now my only concern is to be successful in Valencia, and represent my country in the best possible way," said Topal.

Mehmet Topal will not be on the field during Galatasaray's last match this season against Genclerbirligi on Sunday.

Topal, who completed his career with Galatasaray, scored two goals for the team.

24-year-old Turkish midfielder joined Galatasaray four seasons ago and had 82 league appearances.
