The Turkish Red Crescent, in conjunction with several other Turkish aid organizations, sent a large consignment of food aid to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, according to a Turkish Red Crescent official.
Gokhan Dudu, the Turkish Red Crescent’s representative in Gaza, said the aid would go to at least 3,000 needy families in the strip.
A number of Turkish governmental and non-governmental organizations – including the Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Red Crescent – frequently send aid to the Palestinian enclave.
Since 2007, the Gaza Strip has groaned under a tight Israeli blockade by air, land and sea, which has deprived many of the territory’s almost 2 million inhabitants of most basic commodities, including food, fuel and medicine.
