Two Turkish soldiers were wounded on Friday in a clash with members of the PKK in the Sutluce district of eastern Tunceli province in the eastern Anatolian region of Turkey, local officials said.

The clash broke out after militants attacked the soldiers who were searching for mines near the Sutluce gendarmerie station, according to a written statement issued by Tunceli Governor’s Office.

The soldiers have been taken to hospital and an investigation is underway, the statement added.

Additionally, nine construction workers were allegedly kidnapped by the outlawed PKK armed group while working on a road-building project at a military base in Turkey’s southeastern province Sirnak late Wednesday.

Turkey's 'solution process' began early last year with a ceasefire between the Turkish government and outlawed PKK. The government pledged democratic reforms to empower minorities, particularly the Kurdish minority, which is by far the largest, forming 18 percent of the population.
