Uzbek man detained in Turkey over alleged biting air hostes

An Uzbek passenger was detained by the police at Istanbul's International Ataturk Airport after allegedly biting the hostess minutes before the Istanbul-New York flight on Wednesday.

Tulkin Rahmanov, 28, an Uzbek man who was thought to have mental issues, and his girlfriend Zarifa Muhiddinova, 24, boarded the Turkish Airlines (THY) plane for New York flight at 11:00 a.m.

Rahmanov was speaking loudly and he was disturbing other passengers, eyewitnesses said, adding that THY hostess Filiz Demir warned Uzbek man to sit quietly and behave himself.

However, the man allegedly assaulted and bit Turkish flight attendant's hand because she warned him, they said.

Captain called the police after the incident and Rahmanov was handcuffed and taken out of the plane by the police.

Rahmanov and his girlfriend Muhiddinova will appear before a court following legal procedures as THY hostess made a complaint.

Meanwhile, THY plane took off after a 90-minute delay due to the incident, officials said.
