A total of 53 people have died in Greece since the beginning of this year after contracting the flu.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) confirmed that last week 21 people died, while 173 were hospitalized. Fifty seven of these are currently being treated in intensive-care units.
Specialists are advising those who run the risk of contracting the infection to get the influenza vaccine now, and receive antiviral treatments as soon as any symptoms arise.
