A senior Iraqi army officer has been killed during clashes with ISIL in western Iraq, an official from Al-Anbar province has told The Anadolu Agency.
Taha Abdul Ghani, a member of Anbar province's council, said on Friday the Commander of 1st Division of Iraqi army died amid a fight with the terrorist group north of Fallujah.
He said: "ISIL launched a strong offensive against a military base, which led to heavy clashes between security forces and the forces who attacked the Tharthar area north of Fallujah."
Abdul Ghani added that three other officers were killed in the attack and an unidentified number of soldiers were wounded.
Clashes between Iraqi forces and ISIL have been ongoing since June 2014 when the armed group seized Mosul and other territories in Iraq.Last Mod: 25 Nisan 2015, 12:52
