Governor of Kirkuk Najmiddin Karim has stated that they began digging trenches around the city to prevent terrorist acts and infiltrations.
Karim held a press conference in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Thursday.
"The trench project will put an end to terrorists infiltrating into Kirkuk. Certain entrances into the city will be taken under control. People who are not from Kirkuk or do not have residence permit will not be allowed to enter the city. Also, installation of surveillance cameras at certain locations will be completed by the end of the year," Karim said.
Karim provided no further information in regards to the trench.
