The vessels transporting northern Iraqi oil from Turkey to Western markets have arrived at destination and the sale was completed, an official from the Northern Iraqi regional government said on Monday.
Northern Iraqi Regional Government spokesperson Sefin Dizayi, speaking to Erbil based TV Rudaw, denied claims that the United States had turned away the vessel transporting the oil.
"We will not step back," Dizayi said, stressing that Erbil is determined to export its oil despite Baghdad’s opposition.
He added that the oil sale is taking place in accordance with international standards.
Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, said last month that one million barrels of oil coming from the Iraqi region and stored in Ceyhan, Turkey, were being transported to the Western market.
Yildiz has said Italy and Germany were among the buyers of the northern Iraqi oil.
The central government in Baghdad, meanwhile, opposes the sale of the oil stored in Ceyhan, claiming it violates Iraq’s constitution.Last Mod: 03 Haziran 2014, 09:31
