13 imams in Bulgaria have been penalized after faces charges of spreading ideological propganda, belonging to an Islamic organization and hate speech.
Ahmed Musa Ahmed was sentenced to a year in prison and fined €2,500. Due to a previous conviction, the imam will spend 3 years in prison all together.
Imam Said Mutlu and Mutfi Abdullah Salih were also give one year delayed sentences and fined €1,500 for leading an Islamic organization. Should they be convicted of anything else in the delayed period, their sentences may be extended to three years.
The court also ruled to seize Said Mutlu's assets including cash found in his home and three computers.
The remaining 10 imams were given €2,500 fines each.
Their lawyers have said that they may appeal the convictions to the European Court of Human Rights.Last Mod: 20 Mart 2014, 17:48
