Muslims across the world began to celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Fitr on Thursday but some countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, India, Bangladesh began the first day of the eid on Friday.

The worshippers attended the morning eid prayers at mosques. Pakistan celebrated Eidul Fitr with traditional fervour and amid security fears. In Iran, people turned out en masse across the nation for communal prayers shortly after sunrise. Leader of the Iran Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei led the Eid al-Fitr prayers in Tehran.

Eid al-Fitr is an Islamic holiday which follows the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
