An image of the symbol of the struggle of the Palestinians, Handala, making a sign to Egyptian coupmongers has been circulating on social media.
The famous cartoon Handala sent a message by making the gesture of the 'Rabaa sign,' which has become the symbol of protests against the military coup in Egypt and the center of the anti-coup protests.
Rabaa means four or fourth in Arabic. Just a few hours before the massacre on August 14, anti-coup protesters inEgypt were struggling to voice their demands to the world by raising their four fingers.
More than 181 people were killed last Friday in mass rallies staged by Morsi supporters in several Egyptian cities to protest Wednesday's violent dispersal of their two main protest sites Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya and Giza's Nahda squares on Wednesday.
The Health Ministry said that at least 638 people had been killed in nationwide violence since Wednesday, including 288 in Rabaa and 87 in Nahda.
Handala is the most famous of Naji al-Ali's characters. He is depicted as a ten-year old boy, and appeared for the first time in Al-Siyasa in Kuwait in 1969. The figure turned his back to the viewer from the year 1973, and clasped his hands behind his back.Güncelleme Tarihi: 18 Ağustos 2013, 18:19
