Three Muslim imams from Trinidad & Tobago who were detained in Venezuela in March are to be released sometime this week, their attorney Nafeesa Mohammed said on Tuesday.

Hamza Mohammed and Sheik Hassan Hamid of the Las Lomas mosque and Abdul Salaam of Marabella Jamaat were among a group of T&T nationals arrested in Venezuela's capital Caracas on March 19 during anti-government riots.

The trio, who were due for a hearing this month, had their case dismissed on Friday as the authorities ordered their release.

Nafeesa Mohammed told Guardian Media that the imams were waiting to be medically examined while the paperwork gets processed.
