The co-chairman of the pro-Kurdish PYD in northern Syria, Salih Muslim, has arrived in Turkey for a series of talks regarding the dire situation in the besieged border town of Kobani.
Rudaw reported that he will be meeting Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in addition to pro-Kurdish opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairman Selahattin Demirtas.
This will be his first visit to Turkey in a year, and it comes at a time when the Kurdish town of Kobani on Syria's border with Turkey is surrounded by ISIL fighters who are at the verge of claiming the town.
An affiliate of the outlawed pro-Kurdish separatist PKK terrorist group, which is based in south-eastern Turkey, YPG forces loyal to the PYD have been battling against ISIL advances on the ground while US-led coalition fighter jets bomb ISIL positions around Kobani from the air.
Meanwhile, Turkey has increased security along the border as over 150,000 Syrian Kurds flee the fighting into the Turkish town of Suruc.
The fighting around Kobani threatens to spill into Turkish territory, with stray bullets and missiles hitting Turkish soil.
Turkish border troops responded today with shells targeting both YPG and ISIL militants around Kobani.
Turkey is currently pushing the international community to help establish a buffer zone in parts of northern Syria in order to guarantee the safety of refugees wishing to return to their homes and safeguard Turkey's border.
NATO has already vowed to defend its member-state Turkey should it be attacked from militants in Syria.
Both Syria's Assad regime and PYD leader Salih Muslim have spoken out against Turkey's buffer zone proposal.
Muslim has reiterated the call of some members of the international community to arm the Kurds to fight against the ISIL, but Turkey rejects this due to the fact that it considers groups like the PKK and its affiliates to be terrorist organizations.
Turkey has also expressed its concern that weapons supplied to such groups could fall into the hands of the ISIL and thus defeat the objective.Güncelleme Tarihi: 05 Ekim 2014, 12:21
