"WE HAVE NEVER TURNED OUR BACK TO THE EAST"
At a ceremony marking the opening of Turkish state-run Radio and Television's (TRT) new channel "al Turkey", Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "Turks and Arabs have always been very close to each other. Although we turned our face to the West, we have never turned our back to the East."

SECOND BALYOZ QUAKE
The High Criminal Court in Istanbul decided to re-arrest 19 suspects over alleged coup plans known publicly as "Balyoz (Sledgehammer)" upon objections by the prosecutors carrying out the Ergenekon probe. The suspects were released on April 1.

REFERENDUM AS A PACKAGE IN LINE WITH VENICE COMMISSION CRITERIA
The argument of circles claiming that bringing the constitutional amendments to referendum as a package was against the "Venice criteria" was falsified. Venice Commission official, Pierre Garrone, said they did not see any drawbacks in bringing the constitutional amendments to referendum as a package. Garrone who referred to the commission's "recommended guidelines on referendums" said making amendments to different parts of a constitution was synonymous with making constitutional amendments as a package.

ERDOGAN OPENS TRT'S ARABIC CHANNEL
TRT's new channel "TRT al Turkiye", which will broadcast to the Arabic world with a population of 350 million, has been opened.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan who delivered a speech in the inauguration ceremony in both Turkish and Arabic gave warm messages. Erdogan who emphasized the historic ties between Turks and Arabs said the two peoples were the fingers of a hand.
"El Turkiye" which became the 13th channel of TRT will air programmes on topics ranging from economy to politics, from foreign affairs to sports. The channel will also broadcast the favourite Turkish TV series of Arabs. The channel which has its HQs in Istanbul will make live broadcasts from Cairo, Beirut and Damascus.

AL-TURKIYE
A new TV channel was added to state-run TRT's channels which broadcast in different languages. Al-Turkiye, which will broadcast in Arabic to 350 million people for 24 hours, was opened. The channel started broadcast with a great ceremony. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Crown Prince Shaikh Tamim bin Tamim Hamad al-Thani of Qatar attended the ceremony. Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa thanked TRT TV.

LAST DREAM TO BE INTRODUCED IN ANTALYA
Volkswagen will make international region promotion of new model of Touareg in the southern province of Antalya. The vehicle will be on sale in June. It will be promoted to VW distributors from 30 countries between April 12 and 17.

THEY TURN OCALAN'S HOUSE INTO SHRINE
Supporters of the PKK terrorist organization turned Abdullah Ocalan's house in Omerli village in Suruc town of the southeastern province of Sanliurfa into a shrine on his 61st birthday. Thousands of people gathered in the neighboring hamlet of Onbirnisan to celebrate Ocalan's birthday. This year, only 500 people were allowed to visit Ocalan's house in the village of Omerli.

ARBITRARY RELEASE
The High Criminal Court decided to re-arrest 21 suspects over alleged coup plans known publicly as "Balyoz (Sledgehammer)" on the grounds that judge Oktay Kuban arbitrarily released them earlier. Three judges of the High Criminal Court No: 12 unanimously decided that Kuban used his judicial discretion arbitrarily and irresponsibly.

RELEASED ON APRIL 1, RE-ARRESTED ON APRIL 4
The 12th High Criminal Court which released the 19 jailed culprits in the Balyoz probe on the grounds of lack of substantial suspicion, issued an order for their rearrest. The court also issued an order for the arrest of two generals who were released earlier pending trial.
The member judge of the 12th High Criminal Court, Oktay Kuban, who heard the appeal of the lawyers of 19 culprits, had released them.
The prosecutors who are running the Balyoz probe, appealed the release of 19 culprits including former 1st Army commander Ret. Gen. Cetin Cogan, on April 2. The prosecutors had also appealed earlier the release of Gen. Yurdaer Olcan and Gen. Abdullah Dalay by the 12th High Criminai Court.
The 12th High Criminal Court which discussed the appeal issued a arrest warrant for the 19 culprits plus Dalay and Olcan.

LET'S FACE PUBLIC ON TV
Republican People's Party leader Deniz Baykal made a call to Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the constitutional amendment bill and said, "Mr. Premier, if you are confident, face me on TV and discuss this constitutional amendment bill. Baykal said the need for the amendment rose from Justice and Development Party's efforts to save itself.

IT IS SPRING RAIN TIME
Spring starts to spread across the country slowly. Turkey will see mild and rainy weather this week. Temperature will be over the regular season level today. It will be 27 degrees in the western province of Aydin. As of tomorrow, the rain will begin, and continue all week. Temperatures will drop 4-5 degrees.

FENERBAHCE CHASE LEADERS
After defeating their eternal rivals Galatasaray and became a stronger candidate for the leadership in Turkcell Super League, Fenerbahce soccer team also defeated another yellow-red team, Kayserispor, of the league yesterday. Fenerbahce beat Kayserispor 2-0 with the goals by attacker Gokhan Unal and defender Lugano in Istanbul. This week's last game will be played today between Sivasspor and Galatasaray.

THANKS ANGELS
Fenerbahce Acibadem volleyball team of Turkey, who played in the final of 2010 CEV Indesit European Champions League, won the silver medal after getting defeated by Volley Bergamo of Italy 2-3.

21 RE-ARRESTS UNDER BALYOZ PROBE
The court which released 19 retired and active soldiers on April 1, issued an order for their re-arrest.
The on duty judge of the 12th High Criminal Court had decided for the release of 19 culprits under arrest within the scope of the Balyoz probe on the grounds of lack of substantial suspicion.
The prosecutor's office which appealed the decision asked the court to re-arrest a total of 21 suspects including the 19 which were released on April 1.
The same court issued an order for the arrest of the 21 suspects yesterday.

I LOSE SLEEP OVER CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS
Chairman of the Judges' and Prosecutor's Union E. Ulker Tarhan said, "the picture of judiciary is very dark. I lose sleep over thinking ways to voice the problems of the judiciary and stop this run for the worse."

LAST BOMB OF "GENIUS TURK"
Yale University expert Prof. Murat Gunel, who is known as "genius Turk" in medicine world, explained his very important discovery about aneurysm and brain hemorrhage to daily Milliyet. Aneurysm is a balloon-like bulging of a weak artery in the brain, and aneurismal hemorrhage occurs when the balloon-like artery ruptures and bleeds. In 2008, Prof. Gunel found that two genes in the body caused aneurysm. Now, he found three more genes which increase this risk. Important science magazine Nature Genetics will announce this discovery to the world today.

ATMS GERM-CARRIERS
Experts conducted regular tests at ATMs in Ankara for five months. They found very dangerous germs on the buttons which can cause illnesses like pneumonia and meningitis. Hands should immediately be washed after using an ATM, experts warned.

BAYKAL INVITES TO TV
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal said, "Constitutional Court tries claims of corruption about president, prime minister and ministers too. And the end is High Tribune. They saw that." Baykal called on Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the constitution on TV.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT CEMEVI
State Minister Faruk Celik proposed that Alevi children can complete their religious education at their religious centers known as Cemevi. "Religious culture and religious education are two different things. Alevi families can send their children to their own centers to receive religious education. In that case, children can learn their religious rituals," he said.

YELLOW ANGELS LOSE IN FINAL
Turkish volleyball team Fenerbahce Acibadem were beaten by Volley Bergamo of Italy 2-3 in the final of 2010 CEV Indesit European Champions League in Cannes, France. Angels won the silver medal.
