SUCH A VISIT
Residents in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir have welcomed President Abdullah Gul who visited the province amid discussions of two languages and autonomy. President Gul gave the messages of brotherhood and said at his meeting with Mayor Osman Baydemir, "Turkish is and will be the official language of the Republic of Turkey. We are proud of our different elements in our nation. We consider those different elements as our assets."
COMBAT AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
The government has taken action to put an end to domestic violence. State Minister Aliye Kavaf said that some 40 thousand police officers attended training programs aiming to end domestic violence. "Now, 100 thousand imams will be trained since they have a great potential to affect people. Turkish Housing Development Administration (TOKI) will build shelters for women who are subject to domestic violence," she added.
PRESIDENT GUL PUTS AN END TO DEMANDS FOR BILINGUALISM
President Abdullah Gul paid a visit to southeaster province of Diyarbakir. Gul responded "bilingualism and democratic autonomy" demands which escalated political tension recently.
Gul said, "all the languages spoken in this country are ours. However, Turkish is the official language of this country and this will continue so."
Gul warned Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) to use a more constructive language, noting there should not be any secret agenda.
JUDGES AND PROSECUTORS TO BE TRIED IN REGIONAL COURTS OF JUSTICE
A new arrangement will be made for judges and prosecutors after the structure of Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) was changed. The draft prepared by Justice Ministry was presented to the related institutions.
The draft includes trial of all judges and prosecutors who commit crime in his assignment in regional courts of justice.

Residents of Diyarbakir hang posters in Kurdish and Turkish in front of Diyarbakir Municipality, writing, "Mr. President, welcome to our city." Speaking at Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir's office, Gul said, "official language is Turkish, and it will continue to be so. All languages are ours. There can be people who can speak other languages among themselves, and we have to preserve cultures and heritage."

Corruption files have been revealed after the Republican People's Party (CHP) removed from office Ersu Hidir, the former secretary general of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The corruption files were mentioned in the reports of the Court of Account. Inspectors said Izmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu's team, protected by CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu, caused millions of Turkish liras (TL) of state loss.
7.7 P.C. RISE IN TAX RATES
The government has made public the tax rates to be valid as of the new year. The motorized vehicle tax, stamp duty, and special communication tax will be up 7.7 percent as of January 1, 2011.
SECRET AGENDA WARNING
President Abdullah Gul visited the southeastern province of Diyarbakir after the critical meeting of National Security Council (MGK). Gul warned Mayor Osman Baydemir from Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) as saying "avoid statements and acts which can associate with a secret agenda". Gul said, "let's focus on humanitarian and conscientious sensitivities instead of political and ideological statements."
APPOINTMENT WITH FLAW
Francis Ricciardone --who was blocked by the Senate that said "he is insufficient for Turkey. He remains under the influence of Ankara"-- was appointed ambassador to Turkey by the United States after six months. However, the ambassador, who was appointed by the authority of the U.S. President, should be approved within one year by the Senate which will be renewed on January 1, 2011. As this seems not possible, Washington defines the appointment as "flawed".
RECORD-BREAKING YEAR IN AUTO SALES
Turkish automotive sector increased the sales record of 2005 from 723,000 to 752,000 in 2010. The sector exceeded last year's 557,000 sales in 11 months of 2010. The sector caught 140,000 sales in December.
ERZINCAN INTRIGUE COLLAPSES
Erzurum Prosecutor's Office with a Special Authority, who get the Ismailaga sect investigation from Erzincan Prosecutor's Office saying that "it was an armed attack", expressed an opinion that "the sect was not armed". This opinion was the same with Ilhan Cihaner's view. The prosecutor's office asked all suspects to be acquitted since there was no evidence.
After the harsh statement of the National Security Council (MGK) regarding "autonomy" and "bilingual life" discussions, President Abdullah Gul, who went to the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, said, "the official language is Turkish. They made the problems ideological, and the solution is democracy. It will be everybody's duty to correct conscientious and humanitarian mistakes." Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir welcomed President Gul in a "warm" way, and presented him a Kurdish-Turkish dictionary as a gift.
HOPE OF SOLUTION OVERFLOWS THE STREET
Love which overflowed the streets for President Abdullah Gul in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir was a concrete version of a hope. Because public, who welcomed Gul with a banner saying "our president", is waiting for a different voice from him. Eyes turned to the statement which Gul will make today.
During his visit to Diyarbakir, Gul said, "Turkey's official language is Turkish. Kurdish is a cultural and living heritage, and it is our duty to protect it."
INTERPRETATION OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS: AXIS IS SETTLING
State Minister for Religious Affairs Faruk Celik interpreted the debates of "shift of axis in Religious Affairs". Celik defined the discharge of Ali Bardakoglu (former directopr general of Religious Affairs) and Ayse Sucu (former head of women center of Religious Affairs Foundation) from their posts as "settlement of axis".
PRESIDENTIAL FLAG IN DIYARBAKIR
President Abdullah Gul was welcomed in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir with warm affection and posters writing, "Mr. President, welcome to our city" in Turkish and Kurdish. When the president's car was passing, residents of Diyarbakir hurled roses and carnations on his car.
Gul and Baydemir posed sincerely to the cameras at the Diyarbakir Airport. Gul watched the show of folk dance group, and responded to the affection of Diyarbakir's residents by hailing them for a long time.
During his speeches, Gul underlined importance of Diyarbakir and gave messages of peace, fraternity, unity and solidarity.

President Abdullah Gul, who sit at Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir's chair in Baydemir's office in Diyarbakir, said, "the official language of the Republic of Turkey is Turkish, and it will continue to be so. Also, the language of state and public institutions is Turkish, Turkish is our common language."
LET US CORRECT HUMANE AND CONSCIENTIOUS MISTAKES
President Abdullah Gul gave moderate messages in southeastern province of Diyarbakir where he visited one day after the National Security Council statement.
Commenting on Kurdish issue, Gul said, "this does not suit to us, it should be corrected."
"All of us are the equal citizens of Turkish Republic. We are all one," Gul said.
CIHANER PROVED RIGHT
Ilhan Cihaner, when he was acting as the chief prosecutor in eastern province of Erzurum, launched an investigation against Ismailaga Sect on charges of opening educational establishment without getting permission.
However, Erzurum prosecutor Osman Sanal wanted the file saying, "there is information that the sect is armed organization." The crisis erupted when Cihaner resisted.
As the file was taken, Cihaner was arrested within the scope of "Plan to Fight Against Fundamentalism". Months passed, specially authorized governor's office in Erzurum said, "there is no armed organization. Educational establishment was opened without getting permission".
"IF I HAD KNOWN KURDISH, I WOULD SPEAK KURDISH"
President Abdullah Gul has given the message during his visit to the southeastern province of Diyarbakir that Turkish was the official language of the Republic of Turkey. When asked whether he would speak Kurdish, President Gul told reporters on board the plane on his way to Diyarbakir, "if I had known Kurdish, I would speak Kurdish." During his meeting with Mayor Osman Baydemir, President Gul said, "Turkish is and will be the official language of the Republic of Turkey. Also, Turkish is the language of the state and public institutions. It is our common language."

Calik Group has become the new owner of the Yesilirmak Electricity Distribution Corp. Ahmet Calik, president of the executive board of the Calik Group, handed over a cheque of 441 million USD to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz.
