Turkish dailies cover on Thursday a football match between Turkey's Galatasaray and Italian Juventus that ended in a draw; the counter-narcotics operation in Diyarbakir whereby 23 tons of hashish were confiscated; and a new policy that allows students to receive education in their mother tongue in private schools unveiled as part of the democratization package announced earlier this week.
Daily STAR and VATAN both said "If there is Drogba, then there is hope". Daily STAR said Galatasaray, which started with a 6-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, managed to secure 1 point at the end of their first match against Juventus under their new coach Mancini. The daily said Drogba scored the goal in the first half for the Turkish side, but Juventus bounced back with two late goals before Galatasaray's Bulut scored a goal in the 88th minute. VATAN quoted Mancini as saying that Juventus was a competitive team, but Galatasaray had a good game and Drogba played well.
Daily AKSAM mentions that Galatasaray challenged the European giant Juventus in an away game, scoring their first point in the UEFA Champions League in their first game since Roberto Mancini's appointment.
Dailies STAR and POSTA said "8 trucks of hashish," referring to the narcotics operation conducted in Diyarbakir's Lice town by anti-narcotics police whereby 23 tons of hashish were confiscated. Both dailies stressed that this is the highest amount of drugs ever seized in Turkey.
Dailies YENI SAFAK, STAR and VATAN all quoted Erdogan as saying "Let this be an example for EU," referring to the new policy that allows students to receive education in their mother tongue in private schools, unveiled as part of the democratization package announced earlier in the week.
The dailies quoted Erdogan saying, "5 million Turks living in the European Union have not been given this right although it falls within the EU acquis. All EU countries should take an example from Turkey on this matter."Güncelleme Tarihi: 03 Ekim 2013, 12:02
