"The national army has eliminated a second terrorist from the group that assassinated the Frenchman," Algerian Justice Minister Al-Tayeb Louh told reporters in Algiers.
The minister did not identify the militant, who purportedly belonged to the Algeria-based Jund al-Khilafa group, which recently swore allegiance to the ISIL militant group after having defected from Al-Qaeda.
The group had also claimed responsibility for the murder of French national Herve Gourdel three days after the latter's abduction in the eastern Tizi Ouzou province in September.
Louh had recently announced that another militant involved the Gourdel's abduction and murder had been killed in October.
In the wake of Gourdel's abduction, the Algerian army launched a search operation involving 3,000 troops tasked with finding the perpetrators.
