Egypt's Al-Azhar, the highest seat of Sunni Islamic learning, on Wednesday signed an agreement with the Bahraini Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Endowments for establishing a new committee for supporting dialogue among civilizations.
Speaking following the signing ceremony, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb said the new committee aims to spread social peace and boost dialogue among civilizations and cultures, according to the official Bahraini news agency.
"When we do this, we show the philosophy of Islam in regard to international relations between Muslims and non-Muslims," al-Tayeb was quoted by the agency as saying.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the "Dialogue of Civilizations and Cultures" conference, which wrapped up in the Bahraini capital Manama on Wednesday.
Al-Tayeb said the agreement also aims to boost scientific and cultural exchange as well as dialogue between different civilizations.Güncelleme Tarihi: 08 Mayıs 2014, 09:50
