An Egyptian student died on Tuesday after being struck by a teargas canister outside the Al-Azhar University dormitory in eastern Cairo, student sources have said.
Taha Ibrahim was killed when a policeman fired a teargas canister at him outside the university dormitory, Mohamed Atef, acting chief of the Al-Azhar student union, told Anadolu Agency.
According to student sources, Ibrahim was not a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Interior Ministry has yet to comment on the incident.
Since the beginning of the academic year last September, many Egyptian universities have become epicenters of protest against last summer's ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi by the army.
