German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to pay an official visit to Israel late next month, her office announced.
Government spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invited Merkel to Israel, during a phone conversation between the two leaders on Thursday.
Seibert said Merkel has accepted the invitation and the two leaders will lead the next annual German-Israeli intergovernmental consultations meeting scheduled for late February.
Netanyahu wished Merkel a speedy recovery following a recent ski accident in which she fractured her pelvis, Seibert said.
Israeli Prime Minister has also congratulated Merkel on her election for a third term and on the formation of the new coalition government, he added.
