Cairo's Maadi Military Hospital closed its doors on Monday as mounting numbers of supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi gathered outside the nearby headquarters of Egypt's Supreme Constitutional Court to denounce the deposed leader's trial.
Security reinforcements were deployed around the hospital, where toppled autocratic President Hosni Mubarak is being kept under house arrest.
Protesters chanted slogans against Morsi's trial and in support of the deposed Islamist leader, who is now being tried at the Police Academy in eastern Cairo.
Morsi – along with 14 other defendants (including several other high-ranking Muslim Brotherhood officials) – faces charges of inciting the murder of protesters outside Cairo's Ittihadiya presidential palace late last year.
