The Egyptian army confirmed on Sunday killing a top leader of an armed group based in the Sinai Peninsula.
"The leader of the military wing of Al-Tawhid-wal-Jihad group, Ahmed Hemdan al-Menei, aka Abu Mariam, was killed during a military raid on al-Mahdiya village on Saturday," army spokesman Ahmed Mohamed Ali said in a Facebook statement.
Two other men were also killed in the ensuing gunfight, he added.
Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, has seen a spate of attacks by gunmen targeting policeman and army troops since the July 3 military ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi.Güncelleme Tarihi: 19 Ocak 2014, 11:21
