Egypt reopens Rafah crossing with Gaza

World Bulletin / News Desk

Egyptian authorities on Monday reopened the Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip for four days.

The terminal, Gaza's only access to the outside world not under Israeli control, will remain open for passengers in both directions until Thursday.

Palestinian border official Khaled al-Shaer said that students, patients and those carrying foreign residence permits will be allowed to cross the terminal.

Egypt has tightened its grip on the border with the blockaded Gaza Strip since the 2013 coup against elected President Mohamed Morsi.

The repeated closures of the Rafah crossing have made life even more difficult for Gaza's roughly 1.9 million residents.
