World Bulletin / News Desk

An Egyptian judiciary body on Saturday referred 41 judges to retirement for engaging in "political" activities, a judicial source has said.

A total of 56 judges were accused of engaging in political activities in violation of their professional regulations, joining a sit-in in support of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in mid-2013, and issuing a statement in which they expressed support for the ousted President, the source said.

According to the source, 15 more judges were accused of forming the "Judges for Egypt" political group, ten of whom were sent to retirement.

Among the judges forced to retire is Walid Sharabi, a Morsi backer who had fled Egypt months ago.
