Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has asked Cairo to continue providing Lebanese army officers with military training, Egyptian state media reported Thursday.

“At a [Wednesday] meeting with [Egyptian] President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Prime Minister Hariri asked Egypt for help in training Lebanese army officers,” Egypt’s official MENA news agency said.

According to MENA, al-Sisi had voiced Egypt’s readiness to assist Lebanon in this regard, while Hariri attributed Lebanon’s successes in countering terrorism to the fact that many of its officers had received training in Egypt.

Hariri arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for his first visit to Egypt since assuming the Lebanese premiership last November.

His trip follows a visit to Cairo in February by Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
