Egypt has welcomed the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations in Washington under US sponsorship.
In a Thursday statement, the Foreign Ministry voiced hope that the talks would lead to a break through within the set nine-month timeframe, self-determination for the Palestinian people, an end to the perennial conflict, and the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministry underlined the importance of abiding by the land-for-peace formula, stressing the need for Israel to refrain from taking unilateral measures that contradict this principle, which, it said, represents the basis of all Arab-Israeli treaties.
Palestinian and Israeli officials began their meetings in Washington on Tuesday, their first direct negotiations since talks were suspended three years ago.Güncelleme Tarihi: 01 Ağustos 2013, 13:04
