Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday received Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, upon the latter’s arrival in Cairo, an airport source told media outlets.

Earlier Tuesday, al-Sisi spokesman Bassam Radhi told reporters that Al Nahyan would remain in Egypt for two days.

He refrained from providing any additional details.

In February, al-Sisi visited the United Arab Emirates (of which Abu Dhabi is the capital) within the context of a wider Gulf tour that also took him to Oman.

The last visit to Egypt by an Emirati official was in March of last year, when UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed visited Cairo to discuss “issues of common concern”.

After Saudi Arabia, the UAE has been Egypt’s biggest supporter since a 2013 military coup -- led by al-Sisi -- against the country’s first freely-elected president.
