Eight Iraqis were killed and 15 others were injured on Monday in several incidents in the Iraqi capital.

The source said that “unidentified assailants opened fire on a senior commander of the al-Hashd al-Shaabi Shia militia in al-Tarmia district in northern Baghdad. The senior commander and one of his bodyguards were killed in the attack and two other bodyguards were injured.”

Two women were also killed in two separate assaults by anonymous gunmen in al-Shaab area in northern Baghdad, police said.

Three people were killed and 13 others were wounded in three IED attacks in al-Rashid, al-Bekriya and al-Baladiyat areas.

A body with bullet holes was found by security forces in al-Mahmoudiyah area in southern Baghdad, the source said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi had lifted Baghdad’s eight-year curfew on Feb. 7, citing “improved security conditions.”
