Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon recent incidents in Egypt starting with Wednesday's military coup that ousted the country's first democratically elected president.
The Turkish premier conveyed to Ban his concerns over "the suspension of democratic process in Egypt following the military coup that ignored the popular will," Erdogan's press office said Sunday.
"The prime minister also underlined that the sides in Egypt should avoid any kind of violence, conflict, and avoid provocation and act in common sense. He also stressed that elections should be held and a civil government should be formed as soon as possible which respects the will of the people," the statement said.
