The former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, Prof. Dr. Munir Muhammed Gadban, has passed away in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Sunday morning.

Dr. Gadban, who was also known for being the author of works including Fiqh us-Sirah, Political Treaties in Islam, The Method of the Prophetic Movement, and The Prophet's Life and Method, had been in hospital receiving treatment.

As well as teaching at Saudi Arabia's famous Umm al-Qura university, he was also a part of Saudi Arabia's Fatwa Assembly.

The 72-year-old moved to Saudi Arabia after being placed on the Syrian black-list due to becoming the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood leader in 1985.
