Four Egyptians killed in Friday rallies

World Bulletin / News Desk

Four people were killed and 15 others injured during Friday rallies staged by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, the Egyptian Health Ministry said Saturday.

In a statement, the ministry said three fatalities were reported in the canal city of Suez and the fourth in the coastal city of Alexandria.

The statement, however, gave no reason for the deaths.

Medical sources earlier said that three people were killed in Friday demonstrations, which was called by the pro-Morsi National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy to demand a boycott of this week's referendum on an amended version of Egypt's 2012 constitution.

For the last 192 days, Morsi's supporters have staged rallies on an almost daily basis to denounce what they describe as a military coup against Egypt's elected president and demand his reinstatement.
