France and Saudi Arabia have held a joint military exercise near the holy city of Mecca as the two nations draw closer to one another following France’s strong stance against Saudi Arabia’s rival state Iran in last week’s P5+1 meetings.
France’s foreign minister Laurent Fabius took the sternest approach out of the nation’s involved in the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, with some reports speculating that France is taking advantage of strained ties between the U.S. and its traditional allies Israel and Saudi Arabia by strengthening its own ties with them.
Saudi Arabia and Israel, despite usually being at odds with each other regarding the Palestinians, are united in their protests against the negotiations between Iran and the U.S.
According to local media reports, the Saudi Defense Minister Salman bin Abdulaziz witnessed the exercise on Thursday, which included an unmanned aircraft for surveillance and both Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.Güncelleme Tarihi: 15 Kasım 2013, 16:57
