Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya has warned of plots to break up a sit-in being staged by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in eastern Cairo.
In a statement, the Islamist group said the plots "will be carried out by thugs and outlaws under the watchful eye of official security bodies."
Thousands of the deposed president's supporters have been camped out in Rabaa Al-Adawiya in Nasr City since his ouster by the army on July 3 amid mass protests against his rule.
Some residents have complained about the ongoing pro-Morsi protests and staged rally on Thursday to call for demonstrators to go home.
Local residents have also warned of attempts to attack protesters by plain-clothed policemen and thugs, which would then be blamed on them.
Since Morsi's overthrow, his supporters have staged daily demonstrations and sit-in protests to defend his democratic legitimacy and demand his reinstatement.
Along with Rabaa al-Adawiya Square, many have also been camped out in Nahda Square in Cairo's Giza district.
