Intervention in diesel smugglers on Syrian border

Turkish security forces intervened in a group of diesel smugglers in the town of Altinozu in Turkey's Hatay province close to the Syrian border late on Monday.

A total of 220 tons of diesel was seized and destroyed, said a statement released by the Turkish General Staff.

Some 82 Turkish security forces intervened in a group of smugglers trying to cross the border from Syria to Turkey illegally. Security forces at first warned the smugglers to halt and later opened a warning fire. Following the warning fire there was an exchange of fire between the Turkish security forces and the smugglers from Syria. The smugglers fled the scene.

No one has been injured in the conflict.
