The official military media wing of the Iraqi army said Friday that security forces started an extensive attack from three hubs on the city of Ramadi in an attempt to take it back from ISIL.

According to the statement, Iraqi security forces started advancing from the western, northern and southern hubs of Ramadi.

“The Iraqi Air Force, in coordination with the military intelligence, managed to destroy two explosive-laden trucks in the Albo-Ali Jasem area in northern Ramadi,” Colonel Walid al-Delimi told Anadolu Agency.

Although ISIL lost several parts of Iraq’s Diyala, Nineveh and Saladin provinces, it remains in control of most of Anbar province, including Ramadi.

Iraq has plunged into a security vacuum since June 2014 when ISIL stormed the northern city of Mosul and declared what it called a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.
