ISIL claimed responsibility for Friday’s rampage attack that left five dead and nine injured in the Shia-majority province of al-Qatif in eastern Saudi Arabia.

An ISIL-affiliated Twitter account shared a statement claiming that their militant opened fire on pedestrians in Saihat city.

Security forces later killed the assailant, according to the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

In June and July, al-Qatif province witnessed two suicide attacks that left 25 people dead.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior held ISIL responsible for the attacks.
