Hundreds of African immigrants in Israel are being detained by the Israeli security forces and sent to specifically erected detention camps in the Negev desert.

Plans were announced in December 2013 to resort to such action, after more and more African immigrants fleeing from troubles in their home countries started arriving in Israel, with as much as 53,000 migrants currently believed to be in the country.

Over the weekend, hundreds of migrants were transferred from the city of Tal Rabei' and sent to the newly established Holot detention camp in the desert, from which they will be sent back to their countries via a third party mediator.

The new measures have drawn thousands of migrants to the streets in protest against the Zionist state.
