Israeli army forces kidnapped on Thursday two Lebanese shepherds from a border area in southern Lebanon, a Lebanese security source said.

The source told Anadolu Agency that a 15-man Israeli army force crossed into Lebanese territory where it abducted three local women and two shepherds.

They later released the three women but took the two shepherds – one of them a 12-year-old boy – with them back to Israel.

According to the source, the motives for Israel's military operation remain unknown.

Wafaa Zahra, the mother of the two abducted shepherds, said she had screamed when she saw Israeli troops detaining her children.

"He's still a child," Zahra had told Israeli soldiers as they seized her 12-year-old son, Hassan.

But an Israeli soldier beat the aggrieved mother away with the butt of his gun.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), for their part, vowed to secure the release of the two Lebanese.
