Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino has said punishing the Muslim Brotherhood might have devastating effects.
Bonino made a statement to Italy's La Stampa newspaper.
"Punishing the Muslim Brotherhood might have devastating effects. This would mean going underground for them resulting in the emergence of extremist groups," Bonino said.
Emphasizing that extremisim would peak if the Islamist groups were unable to be represented, Bonino warned such situation would not only influence the Sinai Peninsula but would also spread to Europe.
Bonino argued the world is divided sharply as the Saudi Arabia influenced the Europe and the US in terms of their reactions to the Egyptian crisis.
"The genie has escaped the lamb, you cannot lock it back in," Bonino also said in relation to the talks of Egypt returning to Mubarak era.
