Libya's Brotherhood censures members' arrest

The Muslim Brotherhood's political party in Libya has demanded the immediate release of four female lawmakers belonging to the party who had been seized at an airport in Jordanian capital Amman a day earlier.

"The four party members were detained upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman without being informed of any legal or administrative basis for their detention," the Justice and Building Party said Sunday on Facebook.

The four lawmakers, who represent the party at the Tripoli-based parliament, had headed to Jordan to attend a UN-organized conference on the occasion of the International Women's Day, which falls on March 8 of every year, the party said.

In its statement, the party held the UN responsible for the lawmakers' safety, calling on the organization to intervene to secure their release.

On Saturday evening, Jordanian authorities seized four lawmakers out of a delegation of nine female Libyan figures at Amman's Queen Alia International Airport.
