Ousted president Mohamed Morsi's defense team will convey a message from the deposed leader to the Egyptian people on Wednesday, sources said.
The message will be read out during a planned press conference held by the defense team to announce the results of their meeting with Morsi.
On Tuesday, Morsi's defense team met with the ousted president at Alexandria's Borg al-Arab prison.
"The lawyers agreed with Morsi on several legal steps that will be announced at a Wednesday press conference," Mohamed Toson, one of five attorneys allowed to meet the deposed leader, told Anadolu Agency.
Morsi, he added, remains "steadfast and in high spirits."
Along with Toson, former presidential aspirant Mohamed Selim al-Awa; Mohamed al-Damati, a spokesman for the lawyers representing other trial defendants; and Morsi's eldest son Osama met with the ousted president.
Before entering the prison, al-Damati said that they planned to discuss legal strategy with Morsi given the latter's refusal to accept formal representation.
Morsi was flown to the maximum-security prison last week after appearing in court with seven other defendants to answer charges that he had incited the murder of demonstrators last year.
Morsi has refused to recognize the trial's legitimacy and has thus far refused to accept legal representation.
Under Egyptian law, the court must provide a criminal defendant with a lawyer if the defendant fails to do so.
Al-Damati had earlier said that the legal team would attempt to convince the ousted leader to appoint a lawyer for his defense, otherwise the court would assign one to him.
If Morsi agreed to name a defense team, however, this wouldn't mean that he recognized the trial's legality or that he had relinquished his constitutional legitimacy, al-Damati said.Güncelleme Tarihi: 13 Kasım 2013, 09:53
