Mahir Unal, Head of the Turkish-Egyptian Inter-parliamentary group and group acting chairman of the Justice and Development (AK) Party, said regarding the military coup in Egypt that Turkey supported the people of Egypt, not any group or party.

Unal also stressed that ousted leader Mohammad Mursi had been a democratically elected president, adding, "the removal of Mursi by the army is an ominous situation in the sense of democracy and its acquisitions."

Unal emphasized that Turkey would always be with the Egyptians as it had been before.

All political actors should participate in the elections

Regarding the upcoming elections after the military coup in Egypt, Unal pointed out that the participation of all political actors in the elections, without any restriction, was vitally important for Egyptian democracy.

"Democratic institutions should be involved in the transition process," said Unal.
