The number of Syrian refugees who have fled violence in their country to Jordan has increased to 550,000 since March 15, 2011, when the anti-regime protests started in Syria, a Jordanian authority at the Syrian refugee camps, Vaddah al-Hamud, told the Anadolu Agency.
Hamud said about 750,000 Syrians had already resided in Jordan before the onset of the Syrian civil war, which brings the total number of Syrians living in the country to 1,300 million.
He said there were 4 camps for Syrian refugees in Jordan, of which al-Zaatari Refugee Camp was the biggest one hosting some 129,000 refugees.
Hamud said a fifth refugee camp, with a capacity of 130,000, in the eastern al-Azraq region of Jordan will be opened on September 1.Güncelleme Tarihi: 26 Ağustos 2013, 16:41
