Lebanon's Al-Nusra Front has claimed Thursday's deadly car bombing in the eastern Lebanese city of Hermel, considered a stronghold of the Hezbollah militant group.

"The headquarters of Iran’s party [Hezbollah] in Hermel was shaken by one of Al-Nusra Front’s lions in Lebanon," the group said in a statement, referring to the suicide bomber.

At least three people were killed and 50 injured when a booby trapped car exploded in Hermel earlier in the day.

This is the second attack claimed by the shadowy group against Hezbollah since December.

The group first made headlines after it had claimed responsibility for a mortar attack on Hermel on December 17.

Lebanon has been ravaged by a series of deadly attacks in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, five people were killed and 70 injured by a car bombing in a southern Beirut suburb considered a stronghold of militant group Hezbollah.
