The ‘Arab Spring’ label is misleading and Arab Spring countries need 10 years for better governance, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said Wednesday.
“If the spring is perceived as transformation, those states experienced the spring aiming for better governance. But we have to admit that this aim could not be realized. We need 10 years for that,” he said during a speech at the Fourth Bosphorus Summit in Istanbul.
Ihsanoglu described a post-cold war era transformation in which the center of gravity is moving toward Asia. “That’s why it is important to understand the political and economic state of the Middle East and North Africa,” he said.
Expressing that countries like Turkey, Iran and Egypt are expected to have bigger economies, he stressed there will be major changes in the world's economic order.Güncelleme Tarihi: 20 Kasım 2013, 17:00
