Russia believes the sides in Syrian peace talks can come to an idea of creating a federal republic, if such model satisfies all the parties, deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Monday.

"I cannot assess the chances of creation of a federal state in Syria, because such process have not been launched yet," Ryabkov said.

The deputy Foreign Minister did not rule out, however, the possibility of such development of events.

"If as a result of discussions and consultations over Syria's future, the parties come to the conclusion that such model is necessary to keep Syria united, secular, independent and sovereign, then who can object to that? This model or any other one must be chosen by Syrians," Ryabkov concluded.
